Your College Application: How To Stay Motivated

The time has finally come: you are ready to start applying for colleges. Your college application deadline is right around the corner. Suddenly, the weight of the moment can feel overpowering. You want to start typing away… but keep hitting a wall. Each time you start, you are distracted by another TikTok notification, text message, or other disturbance. Don’t worry, you aren’t alone. Many students struggle to stay motivated to complete each task for their college application. Here are some great tips to help keep you motivated and on track with your college applications.

When To Apply to College

If you haven’t already, you need to create a calendar and/or plan of action for applying to college. Schools often have a variety of deadlines based on the time of year and your student status. In addition, colleges may also have special application periods such as early decision. Most students will apply to college in the fall of their senior year of high school, while others may take a gap year, or choose to apply as a transfer student. No matter which path you choose, having a plan is important.

You may also experience some difficulty deciding what schools you want to apply to and where you rank in competitiveness compared to other students. Consider taking the Empowerly Quiz. The quiz results are backed by data to inform you of your level of college readiness. If these results aren’t in-depth enough for your needs, you can get more detailed information with the Empowerly Score through the Empowerly Portal. Your Empowerly Score will give you a holistic analysis of how you measure up to other students applying to the same schools.

How To Get (and Stay) Focused To Write Any Essays for an Application

First, you need to identify the best location for you to work effectively. A good location will be clean, comfortable, and free of distraction. This should include a separate space for your phone (or at least choosing the “Do not Disturb” setting).

If the application seems too large or if the amount of steps is overwhelming, separate each task. You don’t have to complete the entire application at once. In fact, it is more beneficial not to complete your entire college application in one sitting, since you’ll want to review it a few times with fresh eyes. You can also set a timer for a work period. Once your timer goes off, walk away for a quick break and a snack.

It can also help if you have a planned outline and topic for your college application essays. If you’re still stumped for ideas, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Did you know companies such as Empowerly offer College Admission Counseling services? It’s true. Empowerly offers essay editing with a 24-hour review turnaround. The College Admission Counseling service also includes a College Admissions Committee Review. Before sending in your college application, the committee will review your application and give you helpful feedback. Expert advice backed by data may give you the competitive edge you need to gain admission into your top schools.

How To Get in the Right Mindset To Prepare for College

Mindset is everything. If you believe you are on a path to success and stay focused on your goals, nothing can get in your way. But, you will still need to put in the work to get there. One great way to prepare for college is to take part in educational events and workshops to engage in hands-on learning. Events and workshops can also be an excellent addition to your college application. If you don’t know how to find these activities near you, one way to find great events is through Empowerly’s Partnerships. The partnerships through Empowerly connect schools, businesses, and community organizations with students and families for needed resources.
To best prepare for completing your college application, be sure to take advantage of the resources available to you. Helpful motivation tips include creating a schedule, working in a clean space, and maintaining a positive mindset. You should also consider attending educational events and workshops to help you in your college application process. If you need additional help, Empowerly provides excellent services to help you reach your goals.
