Based on your goals and preferences, you’ll be matched with one of our top-rated counselors who is dedicated to ensuring your academic standing and extracurriculars align with your long-term passions and goals. And when it’s time to officially start applying, your counselor will be there for comprehensive 1:1 support through every essay, application review, interview, and more to ensure you’re on track to reach your goals.
Admissions Committee Review (AdCom)
With Empowerly, you can submit your completed application to our review committee before actually applying. Our committee members consist of former admissions officers with direct experience at top schools who know the dos and don’ts for the schools you want to get into. You’ll receive detailed, constructive feedback that gives you enough time to perfect your application before you hit submit.

What are specialized programs & services?
Empowerly offers ancillary programs to provide students with extra academic support and valuable, real-world experiences that enhance their resumes. Whether you need help preparing for the SAT, are interning at a startup through our Startup Internship Program, or you’re participating in our Research Scholar Program, our specialized programs offer focused support in developing practical skills and applied knowledge.
Is it too early / too late to get a college admissions counselor?
It’s never too early (or too late!) to seek out an admissions counselor. In fact, our college prep services range from middle school through senior year of high school, in addition to transfer and gap year support. It all depends on your specific needs. We assist with everything from interest discovery to study habit forming, to admissions interviews.
What do counseling sessions, essay edit rounds, & AdCom reviews mean?
Counseling sessions: Students meet 1-on-1 with their best-match counselor during 45-minute sessions throughout their entire application prep journey. These sessions could include, but are not limited to:
- Academic and extracurricular planning and assessment
- College list finalization (including early decision/action deadlines, and intended majors)
- Application theme strategy
- Essay, personal statement, and resume crafting
- Recommendation letters and reference strategy
- Interview preparation
- Application support before AdCom review
- Deferral/waitlist strategy
- Scholarship application support
Essay edit rounds: In addition to our dedicated Essay Editing Team, every counselor works closely with their student to help ideate and develop compelling personal statements, UC essays, supplemental essays, and essays for scholarships, summer programs, and more. The counselor provides preliminary essay feedback before the student submits their essay to the Essay Editing Team for first-round feedback, in addition to ongoing support post-feedback. Each round with the Essay Editing Team is 500 words, and feedback is typically provided within 48 hours.
Admissions Committee Review (AdCom): A former Admissions Officer (AO) critiques and scores the student’s extracurriculars, academics (including their most recent transcript, resume, and SAT/ACT score), and essays in a rigorous mock setting, and provides detailed feedback within 10 days of the application draft’s submission. Final application drafts are submitted during the open AdCom review period and only once per college or university.
Research Team: Students enrolled in any of our packages have 24/7 access to our Research Team where they can submit unlimited questions for expert insights into any admissions related questions on their college journey.
