These programs give exposure to college level academics and a vast array of other interests, while bolstering admissions chances. Today’s spotlight is Colorado State University.

Colorado State University Native Education Forum

Description: The Native Education Forum is a six day summer program for rising high school juniors and seniors. Specifically, students will gain university classroom experience, earn academic credit, and research issues critical to Native American/Indigenous communities. While on campus, students will have the chance to interact with university faculty, staff and currently enrolled students as they discuss and evaluate important issues that affect indigenous communities.
Colorado State University Black Issues Forum
Fort Collins, Colorado

Application Requirements: Application, official high school transcript, a letter of recommendation
Eligibility: This program encourages students finishing their junior year in high school with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher in a college prep curriculum to apply. To stand out, students involved in leadership, school, family and community activities are preferred.
*Special Note: Students who participate in Black Issues Forum and are admitted as freshmen to Colorado State University with a high school cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and meet specific course requirements may be eligible to receive the Partnership Award. Funds for this award are disbursed over four years of continuous enrollment at Colorado State University.
Description: The purpose of the Black Issues Forum is to provide students an opportunity to demonstrate their written and oral communication skills and to enhance their leadership potential. To do so, participants will have the opportunity to interact with university faculty, staff, and currently enrolled students as they discuss and evaluate the important issues of today that affect the African American community at the local, state, national, and/or global level.
- Earn one college credit at no charge for the course “Blacks in Higher Education”
- Participate in small peer group discussions of current issues affecting the African American community
- Experience working in a university library and train in research methods
- Interact with faculty, staff and currently enrolled students of Colorado State University
- Reside in University residence halls
- Take part in social activities, including:
- Awards banquet
- Recreation activities
- An evening of cultural expression and open mic night

Eligibility: If you are a 10th or 11th grade student and have a minimum 3.2/4.0, are a second-year National Hispanic Institute member, then you qualify for admission.
