Empowerly offers a unique internship matching program for high school students. Curious about how Empowerly’s Startup Internship Program (SIP) operates? Let’s see what participants think! In this post, we’ll give you some more information about the program itself, as well as look at some student reviews.
First, what is SIP?
The Start-up Internship Program is an Empowerly-exclusive program that is offered several times each year (Spring, Summer, and Fall). Our Fall program registration opened on August 1st this year! Those who enroll in the program gain an invaluable opportunity to get real-world job experience, explore different careers, and make lasting connections – all as a teenager! Working at a start-up means interns learn how a business is built from the ground up.
These skills pay dividends for students looking to acquire firsthand experience in the workforce alongside other professionals. In addition, a student can expand their horizons and explore potential career paths.
“Empowerly helps high school students gain real-world work experience by connecting them with virtual internships at Bay Area startups working on anything from data analysis to social media strategies.”
– Empowerly
The start-ups which students can apply to typically include sectors like:
- Communications and Social Media
- Education
- Health
- Technology
- Nonprofit
- Telecommunications
- Consumer Hardware
Students joining this program will work with a mentor to review application materials, as well as prepare for interviews. The Empowerly team can help students through the process to make the most of the time investment!

What are companies saying?
Bumo, which provides technology-enabled on-demand and fixed child care solutions for families and employers, is just one of the many Bay Area startups that Empowerly works with.
“Empowerly interns provided Bumo with new ideas and fresh perspectives; in fact, they were a goldmine of innovation and new approaches that our team hadn’t considered. They also showed up with a level of humility, eagerness, and excitement that was contagious to the rest of our team,” said Joan Nguyen Tran, co-founder and CEO.
Final thoughts
Empowerly’s Startup Internship Program is unique because it enables high schoolers to find companies seeking internships that are not publicly advertised anywhere. Both companies and students benefit from collaborating through a trusted source that matches a company’s needs with a student’s skills and interests.
