With increasing competition in the college applications process, it’s important to make the most of summer. If you don’t know where to start, read on. Here are 5 summer opportunities to make sure you’re staying ahead of the curve.  

1. Summer Program / Internship

Participating in summer programs is a great way to show expertise in a particular field on your college application. You can learn new skills, dig into a totally new subject, and get hands-on experience.

2. Volunteer

Volunteering is an easy way to add an extra dimension to your application. Look for activities you can find enjoyment in, and invite your friends! The more the merrier; and the more volunteers, the greater the impact you can make.

3. Prepare for the SAT/ACT

Your SAT and ACT scores are some of the most important things on your college application. Preparing for these tests is one of the best ways to improve your application.

Whether or not you end up submitting your scores, these skills are useful! Increasing your vocabulary, practicing basic math skills, and reading comprehension will help you in college. Why not brush up now?

4. Visit Colleges

Visiting colleges is fun as well as directly beneficial to your odds of being accepted. Many top schools consider interest as in important factor in college admittance and determine interest by tracking if you attend their events.

5. Take Online College Classes

Online college classes often times count for actual college credit. You’ll want to check the rules and regulations for transferring credit. Nonetheless, educating yourself with your own initiative always demonstrates strong intellectual vitality. Find something you’re passionate about and pursue it!

However you choose to spend your summer, we hope you enjoy yourself and learn something new. Summer opportunities are out there, now it’s just a matter of finding the right activity for you. Since you have the time and a relatively high amount of freedom outside of school, make hay while the sun shines!
