Get a Head Start

It’s that time of the year again! Incoming high school seniors are starting to (or have started) creating college lists and writing college essays. As a result, college applications will likely consume them throughout the remainder of this year.

If you are an incoming high school senior (or the parent of one), you will be creating a cohesive story of your work over the past few years. You’ll also start scoping out your chances of acceptance into your top choice colleges. Soon, you’ll see that the process of filling out college applications is a long one. So why not get a head start now?

At Empowerly, we can tell you: the same process applies to each of the college essays. Students should always remember to rationally self-reflect about how they and the designated school can mutually benefit. And, starting early is a good idea. In fact, even if you are not a senior yet, you can start thinking about them.

Below is a list of all the essay release dates for some popular colleges.

There is an abundance of essays out there – schools such as Stanford, Harvard, and USC are still yet to be released.

Example: Johns Hopkins University Essay Prompt

Successful students at Johns Hopkins make the biggest impact by collaborating with others, including peers, mentors, and professors. Talk about a time, in or outside the classroom, when you worked with others and what you learned from the experience. (up to 400 words)

In this case, the  applicant should take a step back  and  research about how previous or current John Hopkins’ students have created something out of their unique experiences that are related to the particular fields that this university specializes in.

We hope this advice is helpful as you start your process!
