Gaining an Edge in College Admissions through High School Research

Teddi is proud to serve as Empowerly's Programs Manager. She studied Psychology, Business, and Media, Culture, and Communications at NYU. Coming from generations of teachers, she wanted to lend her skills and experience towards improving the lives of students and educators after graduating, which led her to her work in the educational retail, policy, and technology industries. Teddi is excited to support Empowerly's community of students, families, and counselors to successfully navigate the college admissions process and achieve their goals by providing diverse and enriching programming.

Raisa is a College Admission Counselor and Research Scholar Program Counselor for Empowerly with over 5 years of experience in college admissions. She graduated from Columbia University with a Bachelor’s in Neuroscience and a Master’s in Clinical Research from Icahn School of Medicine. She has gotten students accepted into UCLA, UC Berkeley, NYU, Cornell, Emory, University of Michigan, Northeastern, Boston University, Case Western, and other great colleges. She has also served as an Educator for the Lang Youth Medical Program and Advising Fellow for Matriculate, helping students with the high school and college application process for 3 years. At Columbia University, she also previously worked as an Admission Interviewer.

 

She has previously conducted research on Alzheimer's disease at NYU starting in 10th grade.  She is currently conducting eating disorder research and was published in the Journal of Biological Psychiatry. She is passionate about mental health and disability advocacy, research, and education. Thus, she has worked closely with mental health non-profit organizations Active Minds and Synapse to raise awareness and educate the community about mental illnesses and invisible neurological disabilities. Furthermore, she co-founded a mentorship program at Columbia to help 80+ students receive mentorship and stipends to pursue careers in medicine and research.
