KU, founded in 1861, is the state’s flagship university. It’s a public research university located in Lawrence, Kansas—just 40 miles from the nearby metropolis, Kansas City, and is best known for its:

K-State, founded in 1863, is a public land-grant university located in Manhattan, Kansas—a city affectionately nicknamed "The Little Apple." It’s best known for its:

KSU's mission statement, "foster excellent teaching, research, and service that develop a highly skilled and educated citizenry necessary to advancing the well-being of Kansas, the nation, and the international community" emphasizes its dedication to advancing the well-being of those within the Kansas community and beyond. This mission plays out on campus with a smaller-town feel and a close knit undergrad student body of around 15,650.

Both KU and KSU are well-respected universities, consistently ranking in lists of public universities nationally.

Currently, in-state tuition is slightly lower at KSU, but the net price (actual cost after financial aid) can vary depending on individual circumstances.
