With the U.S. Centers for Disease Control located on its campus and a prestigious hospital system with campuses throughout Atlanta, Emory University has built a solid reputation as a research institution.

For that reason, the school is highly selective in its admissions process. The 14.49% Emory University acceptance rate for the Class of 2028 makes it clear that the school remains committed to its distinctive and prestigious reputation.

Emory’s Admissions Insights for Fall 2024

In evaluating student applications, Emory University looks for students who display a high level of academic achievement but remain committed to making the world around them a better place.

From a massive pool of almost 35,000 high school seniors, only about 5,000 met these criteria in a way that compelled the admissions team to give them a “yes.” This year’s  sub-15% Emory University acceptance rate is a testament to the rigorous, holistic nature of the school’s selection process.

Taking a Close Look at Emory University’s Admissions Statistics

The following statistics represent Emory University’s Fall 2024 final admissions decisions:

  • 34,914 total applicants
  • 5,058 admitted students
  • 14.49% Emory University acceptance rate

This acceptance rate is Emory’s lowest in the last four years and represents a trend toward greater selectivity. While the Class of 2025 enjoyed a 20.40% acceptance rate, that percentage dropped to 15.82% and 16.24% for the Classes of 2026 and 2027, respectively.

What Does the Geographic and Demographic Data Reveal About This Year’s Emory University Acceptance Rate?

As a large research institution with the resources of a global city at its fingertips, Emory University attracts students from all over the nation and the world.

This year, the school admitted students from all 50 states, with most coming from the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.

A Demographic Breakdown of Emory’s Class of 2028 Admits

A diverse range of students have been admitted to both the Emory College and Oxford College campuses of Emory University to join the Class of 2028. Typically, around 50% to 60% of students come from underrepresented groups.

This year, Emory admitted 339 scholars from QuestBridge, a nonprofit organization that matches low-income youth with leading colleges. Additionally, 15.7% of students admitted this fall are first-generation four-year college students.

How to Give Yourself the Best Chance of Admission to Emory University

For those wondering how to get into Emory University, the school aims to enroll high achievers who are engaged in their communities. Though the admissions team considers several factors, they give preference to students who have taken challenging high school courses and done well in those classes.

While excellent grades in high-level classes can usually help students overcome suboptimal test scores, things do not work the other way around. Those with lower grades and higher test scores may find the Emory admissions process challenging.

Emory also requires recommendation letters, essays, and personal statements. These materials help the team understand your voice, your inclination toward intellectual curiosity, and your engagement with the world around you. Though academic success is important, the admissions team would like to see that you spend time outside of class contributing to your family and the life of your community.

What GPA Do You Need to Get Into Emory University?

Emory University does not require a minimum GPA for admission. However, successful applicants typically have a 3.8 GPA or higher (on a 4.00 scale).

What Type of Students Does Emory University Accept?

Emory University aims to admit students who can balance academic success and intellectual curiosity with concern for and engagement with the world around them. The school desires high achievers who want to make the world better.

How Many Students Does Emory University Take Every Year?

With the Emory University acceptance rate under 20%, the total number of admitted students has hovered between 5,000 and 7,000 in recent years.
